These dynamic sessions have been organised by Redeye members Karina Lax and Jeremy Abrahams. They will invite fellow artists from the Sheffield and South Yorkshire zone to join together through presentations, workshops and networking events on an inspiring variety of subjects. Well-nighthe October Speakers Jeremy Abrahams is a Sheffield based photographer. He will be discussing the challenges and joys he experienced working on his project ‘Unhidden in Plain Sight’, well-nigh human trafficking and modern slavery. Commissioned by the University of Sheffield’s Festival of the Mind, the work was a response to the challenges of creating images that humanise survivors of a de-humanising treason and involved collaboration with organisations which support survivors of trafficking and modern slavery and researchers at the University of Sheffield. Lucy Saggers is a Yorkshire based documentary photographer who currently has five works shortlisted for the Royal Photographic Society International Photography Exhibition 161. Her latest work, Of Life and Land, is a captivating photographic exhibition chronicling life in the Yorkshire village of Ampleforth. Featuring residents, young and old, going well-nigh their work and lives, these photographs are raw, honest and uncommonly beautiful. Well-nighthe November Speakers Karina Lax is a photographer from Sheffield, who studied MA Photography at London College of Communication and Interactive Arts at Manchester School of Art. She has launches her first photobook The First Day and twin exhibition hosted EYEYE, Division St, Sheffield on 5th October (private view on 4th October 5.30-8pm), a photographic study looking at 30 primary age school starters and their clothing, dressed for their first day of school in Sheffield, UK, photographed in August and September 2017 and 2018. Karina's interest is in human behaviour, social influence, malleate and dress, and has chosen to photograph children and their school suit at this milestone moment as a way to initiate spiel virtually social conditioning, socialization and conformity as well as giving recognition to the role photographic diarising, vernacular photographic traditions and the role social media now plays in these moments. Les Monaghan is interested in class, community, and representation. Previously a printing photographer schooled in unambiguous imagery, he has deconstructed the documentary method through successive projects; staging photographs with migrants, suction (2006 – 2008), working with texts - the year long legation Aspirations Doncaster (2014) and the ACE funded The Desire Project (2015 - 2016), collaborating with others and re-contextualising, Relative Poverty (2016 - 2018). Works are often shown on a large scale engaging directly with the public. He was awarded the 'Social Works?' Artist legation and the Brighton Photo Fringe Participate legation in 2018. Who is it for?
